“Caesarean Section Facts”

Warnings/Information:

  • It is a Serious Major Abdominal Surgery, and therefore should NOT be taken lightly!
  • Since the rates of Caesarean Sections have increased in countries, like Brazil and the United States for example, so have the Infant Mortality rates.
  • It can cause the baby to have latching problems, for breastfeeding moms.
  • It also can delay the production of breast milk & supply.
  • You should only have a C-Section if it is medically necessary! Not so you can control the date in which your baby is born. Doctors are now starting to enforce this as a rule, because C-Sections should not be used like an everyday cosmetic procedure!
  • The Recovery time is longer than a vaginal birth & more painful too!

Proven Medical Risks for the Mother:

  • Infection
  • Heavy Blood Loss
  • Blood Clots, especially in the legs or lungs
  • Nausea, vomiting, and severe headache after the delivery (related to anesthesia and the abdominal procedure)
  • Bowel problems, such as constipation or when the intestines stop moving waste material normally (ileus)
  • The Cutting and/or damaging of other organs, such as your bladder for example
  • Maternal death (Even though it is rare, it still can & does happen)

Proven Medical Risks for the baby:

  • Infection
  • Excess fluids in the lungs
  • Physical Injury during the delivery
  • Immature lungs and breathing problems, if the due date has been miscalculated or the infant is delivered before 39 weeks of gestation
  • Need for special care in the NICU
  • Death (Though it is rare, it still can & does happen)

The only benefit to a C-Section is that when it is very much so medically needed, it has the chance to save your baby’s life. In emergency situations, where one is needed, it can help! But only in cases where it is medically needed & necessary, are they ever okay! Even then, they still have the above risks. But in needed scenarios, for the sake of your baby’s life, the risks are worth it then.
